Sanctity
"Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work." (2 Timothy 2:21)
What is the definition of "sanctity?" "Sanctity" is a non count noun that means “sacredness” or “the quality or state of being holy, very important, or valuable.” (The Britannica Dictionary) The difference between "sanctity" and "sanctify" is: "As a noun sanctity is (uncountable) holiness of life or disposition; saintliness. As a verb sanctify is to make holy; to consecrate set aside for sacred or ceremonial use."
"NBA player A. C. Green said that when he became a Christian he resolved to keep his purity. He said, “We all have the power of choice, but once used, our choice then has power over us."(Ministry 127)
"But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15-16)
We can be the people God wants us to be, but it depends on our choice. God is not going to force us to be holy. I speak for myself first, because I know the struggle that exists, in being right in God's eyes. Like so many, I do give in to fleshly desires, and focus on what I want to do, over what God wants me to do.
As Paul writes to Timothy in our text, I am God's vessel, that God saved, and intends to use, to further His kingdom. What is needed is to have a heart cleansed of that which is dishonorable. In essence, to choose God's forgiveness of sinful thoughts and actions.
Following this is to have the commitment to be used by God to accomplish His purpose. The world needs to see a people who take seriously their "sanctity". We are not our own, but we belong to Jesus, and He is not just our Savior, but He is Lord of our lives.
Does it show in everything we say and do?
How blessed we would be, and what an impact we would make, if we would take seriously our "sanctity" in our Christian walk! GP
