The Height of Horrible (By Gary Patterson)
This is not a great title! But it does beg the question concerning the war between Israel, and the terrorist militants of Hamas and Hezbollah. Just how horrible will it get before this conflict subsides, or ends? I have read that some people don't believe it will ever end. Oh, it may calm down for awhile, but the hatred that is so deep toward one another, will be like a sore that festers, and erupts to cause havoc again.
As I've watched the footage of the death and destruction that both nations have brought to each other's lands, I ask, what is being gained? Is there any productive thing that will come from this? It was very hard to hear the heartbreaking stories of the Jewish families that lost loved ones in the attack by the Hamas militants, on October 7th, just a year ago. And the sorrow and confusion of the Palestinian people, who are caught in the middle of this terrible conflict. How many times have they been told to evacuate, to the north, than to the south, and go where? There is really no place for them to go.
They have lost family, home, and truly their hope for a better future!
I ask all of us, who observe this tug of war of aggression, just what is the height of horrible? It is great, and very troubling, for us who observe.
As solutions are being considered, I believe we must turn to God in prayer, and remember what God's promises are. In Isaiah 54:10, the Prophet speaks: "For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you."
The great solution to this height of horrible, is to seek our awesome God, who is higher than all of this. He promises peace, because He has compassion on the world. To seek His love, His law, and will for our lives, will diminish this height of horrible, and bring us to a place of peace.
Can it happen? I believe it can! GP
