How We Need The Prince Of Peace Today!

How We Need The Prince Of Peace Today!
(By Gary Patterson)

"Rebels seized the capital Damascus over the weekend, having captured Homs and other smaller cities in a lightning-fast offensive that took the incumbent government by storm.

Civilians across Syria have taken to the streets to celebrate the fall of the family regime, which has governed the nation since the 1960s, and whose repressive policies helped instigate the 2011 uprising which plunged the country into civil war." (Newsweek.com)

I have been following the news of the take over of Syria, by rebel forces, and the banishing of the brutal dictator Bashar Al-Assad. The footage I saw was horrific of what he did to his own people. The torture, and the use of chemical weapons, is just unbelievable.

How different is our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. Instead of coming into the world has a dictator, and torturer of people, Jesus came into the world to be our Savior, a light of hope, to all of us who believe upon His name.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end." (Isaiah 9:6-7)

The prophet Isaiah mentions twice the blessing of peace in these two verses.

1. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

There is no hatred, no strife, no division, no war. There is nothing found in Jesus that contributes to the conflict that is found within us, or around us. What individuals, and groups of people, (whether families, or communities, or nations) find in Jesus, is peace, stability, and unity. How we need Jesus today! That is why, the preaching of the gospel is so vital today.

2. Jesus' government, and peace.

What Jesus establishes within us, and around us is eternal. His kingdom has no end. What a blessed assurance, that what we can experience in ourselves, and as a people, in Jesus, will be an eternal peaceful, blessed experience. One that only can be felt by receiving Jesus Christ, as Savior, and Lord.

Yes, Syria has been liberated. But has it truly been liberated? Only when the inhabitants, as well as the world, accept Jesus Christ, into their lives, will they ever feel truly free. Can it happen today? Indeed it can! GP
