The High Cost Of Our Sin

The High Cost Of Our Sin (By Gary Patterson)

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

"Donald Trump may have stepped back from his huge tariff rises on every country, except China, which now faces at least 145%, but the impact of the market chaos is likely to continue in the UK and beyond. The rest of the world still faces a blanket 10% tariff on all US exports. While much of the focus has been the direct impact of the tariffs on physical goods, Trump’s actions threaten to reach every corner of global finance and the economy." (The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/10/donald-trump-tariffs-impact-uk-beyond)-4/10/2025)

Focusing on the cost of goods all over the world, because of the trade war that is going on, made me think of an extreme spiritual matter concerning the cost of our sins. The apostle Paul comes right out and tells us what our sins will cost us. "For the wages of sin is death." Spiritual death is eternal separation from God. How miserable we will be if we are eternally separated from God.

The Bible is clear that if we are not in heaven, and in the presence of God, we will be in hell. And "hell is described as a place of eternal punishment and torment, specifically for those who reject God and reject His love, grace, and salvation. It's characterized by fire, darkness, and suffering, and is considered a place of final judgment and separation from God."(AI) "They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might."
(2 Thessalonians 1:9)

How many people today, just like in the days of Noah, have not, and will not take this seriously. To be involved in sinful, worldly activity, will have a very high price. The price of our souls. And if we have done nothing to rectify this, we will pay dearly for all eternity.

But while there is still today, we have the opportunity to accept God's free gift of salvation. By accepting God's Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior, and Lord of our lives, we can receive the "free gift of God (that) is eternal life, in Christ Jesus our Lord." How can we not love God for offering this to us? And how can we not love the Lord Jesus Christ, for the giving of His life on the cross of Calvary, and dying for our sins? We need to see how much God loves us, and wants us to be saved.

This is my opinion, and you don't have to agree with it. But I believe that the high tariffs, is the way our President is trying to acquire fair trade. We hope that in the long run, it will accomplish this.

God gave His Son, which cost Jesus His life, so that we could have the redemption we need. But it's up to us, to respond to God's grace. How much are we willing to surrender, in order to receive this precious promise of God! GP
